About

I  have over forty years' experience as a trainer in the fitness industry. I competed in bodybuilding for many years where I got to travel the world and meet many of my bodybuilding heroes including my inspiration: Arnie.

The dream started as a young boy growing up in Essex. I was painfully shy, not the best at school, but I found solace in the small home-made gym my dad set up in the garage. That's where you'd find me every day, just me and a few weights my dad had helped me save up for. I was a loner on a mission and I won my first junior contest in my teens. I first qualified to train others at the age of fifteen.

It was later, when I finally joined a gym, that my life really changed. I worked full time and had to cycle miles to get there, but I did it every day, no matter what. I might not have been academic, finishing school with barely any qualifications, but I knew I had found my vocation. I was a shy teenager who knew what I wanted to do for the rest of my life - truly.

The gym: specifically health and fitness, weight training and bodybuilding is what saved me from going the same way as many people I grew up with. I was a dreamer. Bodybuilding was all I knew and all I wanted. I said I wanted to be the best I could be, and one day to own my own gym - that was my goal. In fact, I was so goal-focussed I sometimes think I was blinkered, missing out on many other things along the way because all I could see was the end result. I won or was placed in many contests; clocking up well over twenty wins in those formative years. It was that single-minded need-to-win mindset that made me EFBB British Champion in 1987.  That's when I was awarded my IFBB Pro card: the VERY first guy in Essex to do it.  A dream finally realised.

I later realised my other dream when I co-owned and successfully ran a gym in Brighton and later gyms in Tilbury and Romford.

Sadly, because of overuse of heavy weights, duration of training and intensity over a long period, I had sustained injuries to my forearms and elbows. However, I had carried on training in preparation for the British championships.  But what it meant was after becoming a pro, I had to have four major operations.  The surgeon said I should be able to return to high-intensity training after six months but this was not the  case. I rested for two years and still could not train at the level needed to compete with IFBB pros. So, I never had a chance to reach my full potential as a pro IFBB bodybuilder. I felt shattered by that. However, not to be deterred, I decided to put all my energy into my new gym business EveryBodies Health Studio in Romford. With some great help from my bodybuilder friend, Scott, my dad, another friend, Alan, and my mum, we converted what had been a nightclub into a professional health and fitness studio. It had sunbeds, saunas, aerobics, yoga, latest equipment etc. and was highly successful. During this time, I invested all my energy into helping other people get fitter and healthier. We had over 200 members. I also trained and helped Kathy Knot become the first British EFBB champion and the very first IFBB women's pro bodybuilding champion in Essex. In addition, I also helped Andy Watts become EFBB British Light Heavyweight champion the year after I won.

Over the years I have helped many bodybuilders become national champions. I also trained Orient Football Team players and some elite boxers and athletes to a national level.

I now have a Personal Training business: Malcolm Brown For Fitness.

I have worked at various gyms all over Essex and in London, including my friend, Darwen's gym, Intensity Gym. He is a champion bodybuilder. I am now working on Canvey Island. My mission now is to help others achieve their health and fitness goals. I have worked with people of all fitness levels and from all walks of life.

As I got older I also have a more holistic approach to health, I do yoga every day, and am a qualified yoga instructor as well as a nutritional advisor.
